Lost or stolen Tickets
International Rail is not responsible for passes, tickets or vouchers which are lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed. Refunds cannot be authorized in such cases. Travel insurance is strongly recommended. International Rail offers a Ticket Protection Plan which will compensate travellers for passes and tickets lost or stolen while overseas. Please see our website for coverage details and conditions.
Tickets purchased from a Travel Agency
Passengers who purchase Passes or Train Tickets through a travel agency must deal directly with their Travel Agent in relation to Refunds, Cancellations, Exchanges or any other matter regarding their booking.
International Rail is not liable for any incorrect information given by local rail employees that results in out of pocket expenses.
Most High Speed/ Premier and Sleeper Trains require compulsory seat/ sleeper reservations. Rail Passes do not include seat/ sleeper reservations. They must be purchased in addition to the rail pass and can be limited in availability. International Rail highly recommends pre-purchasing reservations as far in advance as possible (usually 60-90 days prior to train date). These can be made prior to departure from International Rail, or at any railway station of the country your are traveling in.
Once payment has been received, International Rail deems all information in relation to the rail order to be correct. It is the responsibility of the travel agent or the passenger to have checked all details on their invoice before payment is made.
Should an error be identified, it must be reported to International Rail within 24 hours of the travel agency, passenger or anyone on behalf of the passenger signing for the tickets. Fees may apply.
E-Tickets (Electronic Tickets)
E-Tickets are issued by email with a PDF document attached. The document will include train details and seat allocations. This must be printed out in hard copy before departure. Please read the terms and conditions that accompany your e-ticket for further details.
The document must be taken on board the train and is valid as the actual ticket presented to the train conductor.
USA/Canada and Asia
Your voucher must be exchanged at a railway station prior to travel.
Paper tickets for train reservations are issued with train details and seat allocations printed on them. These tickets must be taken on board the train and presented to the train conductor. Please note, some tickets may need to be inserted into a ticket machine on the platform prior to boarding.
Validation of Rail Passes (UK and Europe)
Rail Passes must be validated prior to the first day of use. The first day you wish to use the pass, please take it to a train station ticket window to have your pass activated.
